PRESS: Moscow freezes road construction for FIFA World Cup 2018
MOSCOW, Feb 4 (PRIME) -- A lack of funding made Russian authorities freeze the upgrade of the A105 federal highway and construction of a toll road between the highway M4 and Moscow’s Domodedovo airport, meant to be completed before the FIFA World Cup 2018, business daily Kommersant reported Thursday, citing sources with knowledge of the situation.
The planned investments in the A105 highway amounted to 15.6 billion rubles and in the M4 road to 13 billion rubles. The sources told Kommersant that the Transport Ministry offered Domodedovo to cover the costs to link A105 to an overpass which is being built near the airport.
A spokesperson for Domodedovo said that the airport “is interested in timely and full completion of all projects in the framework of the World Cup 2018 preparation program.” Representatives of transport authorities refused to provide official comments.
